In addition, UFC announced that Jose Aldo, who had defeating Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 in July, had been promoted to undisputed featherweight champion of the UFC.
The Promotion also announced that Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis will fight in the featherweight division as the main event of December’s UFC 206 in Toronto, and that the winner will become the interim featherweight champion.
The winner of this interim title bout on December 10 will then fight with Jose Aldo in 2017, unifying the featherweight titles.

McGregor became the UFC featherweight champion after a brutal win by KO over Jose Aldo at 13 seconds of the first round, back in December 2015. Then he never defended his title, and instead, fought twice Nate Diaz, and eventually making history, defeating Eddie Alvarez and being the first to get 2 belts in different divisions at same time (featherweight and lightweight).
McGregor, as he announced himself, will be out of the octogon untill may of 2017, awaiting for his first child birth.
